In this edition of ILIM’s weekly market bulletin:

A rally on Friday pushed global markets to weekly gains of 1.1%, snapping a three-week string of declines. US-China trade talks were the key the catalyst, as hopes grew that they can reach an interim or partial deal. Progress was also reported on Brexit after Thursday’s meeting between Taoiseach Leo Varadakar and UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson as both indicated a potential solution for a Brexit deal.

Corporate newsflow will take centre stage this week as the US third quarter earnings season gets underway. The European Council convenes on Thursday to discuss Brexit, if there is no agreement by October 19th, PM Johnson is bound by the Benn Act to seek an extension. Annual meetings of the World Bank and IMF also take place which could shed light on longer term outlooks.  READ MORE
